| Criterion | HubSpot Sales Hub | Second Brain (Ember) |
|---|---|---|
| Main job | System of record and sales execution | Judge a signal before it becomes a deal |
| Objects | Contacts, companies, deals, activities | Business question, ICP, model, trajectory |
| Forecast | Forecasts from the logged pipeline | Not a close date. An argued decision |
| Automation | Follow-ups, sequences, outreach | Not a sequencing tool |
| Trial / entry | Free $0, no card | Free $0, no card |
| Entry price (12 Sep 2026) | Starter $20/seat/month ($10 struck through on the page) | Free $0, Starter $16 excl. tax / month |
| Professional / Max | Professional $100/seat, Enterprise $150/seat | Pro $33 excl. tax, Max $129 excl. tax |
| Best if | A team must share one pipeline | The shift is read outside the CRM, in notes and refusals |
| Main limit | An unlogged signal does not exist for Sales Hub | A conversation is not a close-date forecast |
HubSpot vs Ember
Do they solve the same need?
No. Comparing HubSpot and Ember as two CRMs, or as two lead tools, is a category error.
A B2B market shift is first visible in conversations, competitor pages, tenders, refusals. It appears in a CRM only when someone creates a deal, a contact, a stage.
HubSpot Sales Hub, product page on 12 September 2026, presents itself as HubSpot's sales software: CRM, automation, forecasts, assisted prospecting, Free through Enterprise. It is a system of record and sales execution.
Second Brain, Ember's product page the same day, is the decision layer for founders: structured judgment, not a generic chat. Ember's homepage says it acts above tools: a CRM "does not challenge your Ideal Customer Profile". That is not an insult to HubSpot. It is the useful border.
Lead Intelligence is not the subject of this page. Here the question is reading a shift before the CRM, not ranking accounts to contact.
When to choose HubSpot
Sales Hub sees objects your team entered. It can automate follow-ups and forecast from that pipeline. If nobody logged the signal, HubSpot has nothing to forecast.
That is why a leader who "looks at HubSpot to know if the market is turning" arrives late. The CRM shows the consequence. It does not state the hypothesis.
Keep HubSpot when a team must share one pipeline, permissions, sequences, a forecast. Prices published on the Sales Hub page on 12 September 2026: Free at $0 per month, no card; Starter at $20 per seat per month (a $10 figure appears struck through); Professional from $100 per seat; Enterprise at $150 per seat.
When to choose Second Brain
Second Brain is for holding an open question. You drop call notes, pages, a refusal, a competitor offer. You leave with an argued priority. Only then do you create or kill deals in HubSpot.
If those signals are not written down, neither Ember nor HubSpot can "feel" the market.
Limit: a Second Brain conversation is not a close-date forecast. Ember is not sold as a team CRM.
The "1,000+ founders" figure on Ember's homepage is omitted here: it is a marketing-page figure, not an audited census.
Pricing: a HubSpot seat is not an Ember credit
HubSpot bills per seat, with a Free tier. Ember bills Ember usage, included credits not rolling over. Free $0, Starter $16 excl. tax, Pro $33, Max $129, pricing pages on 12 September 2026.
Do not compare $20 per seat to $16 excl. tax as if they were the same object. One pays for a team register. The other pays for a judgment layer. They can coexist.
A ten-day test
Keep two columns.
Column A, in HubSpot: new deals, stages won, stages lost.
Column B, outside the CRM: three weak signals a week (a buyer sentence, a competitor move, a new constraint) and the decision it implies.
If column B is empty, your problem is not the tool, it is observation discipline. If column B is full and HubSpot carries none of it, you need a judgment layer, then a logging rule. Ember can hold the judgment layer. HubSpot must remain the register.
Do not buy Ember to replace Sales Hub. Do not expect Sales Hub to challenge your ICP. If neither column changes Monday's decision, do not buy anything extra.
